What is Ergonomics?

Ergonomics takes into effect the type of work that you do, the job enjoinment in general, and if you utilize any tools for your workspace. The goal is to have the best fit and aim your posture and ergonomic situation to be utilized for you and what conditions your job entails. Ergonomics are not supposed to fit the products to the users, but fit the users to the products or equipment. Below are some ideas of how ergonomic setups can help change your overall work experience when working.

  • You can adjust the chair your sitting in to have a 90-degree line from your waist to your legs, and have your feet resting flat on the ground.
  • Adjusting the height of your monitor, so you are looking at a slight angle upward, as this will help your posture and not make you hunch more often when sitting.
  • The position of your keyboard takes into effect how much stress is being put on your wrists, which can lead to carpal tunnel type symptoms.
  • If you lift heavy items while working, trying to maintain proper posture when lifting and squatting or bending the correct way, as to help prevent certain types of back injuries.
  • Overall it is your posture when doing any activity while working that can make or break your body down in certain areas. Whether its sitting at your computer desk or office desk, taking phone calls with having your head pinned against your shoulder, standing at your desk or behind the counter, and even walking around the office.

Ergonomics takes into effect the need for different types of stationary movement to active types of movement during the day. It doesn’t matter what type of job or industry you are in, the overall goal is to provide good posture and ergonomics, as this makes your body comfortable and safe, and it helps minimize fatigue, discomfort, injuries, emotional stress, which makes you less prone to work place injuries.
